Variant Classification Model

The Myriad team classifies variants into one of five groups based on a variant’s clinical interpretation. Once a variant is classified, this classification is used for future observations of the variant. In addition, Myriad continually monitors emerging data in order to provide a more definitive interpretation of a variant.

Deleterious

Associated with a significantly increased cancer risk

Suspected Deleterious

Available evidence strongly suggests association with significantly increased cancer risk

Variant of Uncertain Significance

Insufficient evidence to determine if the variant is associated with an increased cancer risk

Favor Polymorphism

Evidence strongly indicates the variant is harmless and not associated with an increased cancer risk

Polymorphism

Harmless, not associated with an increased cancer risk
